Continue to Cenchreae, from where Paul departed for Ephesus. | Overnight in Athens. | | Day 7 | After breakfast we transfer to port to board our 3-day cruise. We sail to Mykonos, where we find beautiful beaches and chic boutiques. Beneath its sophisticated surface, lies a quintessential Greek island. Hundreds of tiny chapels dot this blue and white-washed island with its beautiful windmills. Find a table on the waterfront and bask in the serenity of the sunset over its picturesque harbour. (There will be an opportunity for Mass/prayers on board the ship). | Overnight on board ship. | | Day 8 | After breakfast we arrive in Kusadesi and travel to Ephesus. St Paul lived here and today it is one of the most extensive and impressive archaeological sites in the world. Much has been rebuilt and it is easy to visualize an active city as it would have been. There is an optional visit to the House of the Virgin Mary. We return to the cruise ship and sail to Patmos arriving mid afternoon. Patmos is the island known as the site of the apocalyptic Revelation of St. John the Divine, written here during his exile from the Roman Empire. The cave where he lived is near the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. The Monastery of St. John, built on one of the island's highest points, houses priceless icons and manuscripts in its Treasury. Shore excursion on Patmos included. (There will be an opportunity for Mass/prayers close to the entrance of the Cave of St John and the Apostle in Patmos, or in Ephesus at the Marketplace, or in the Amphitheatre). | Overnight on board ship. | | Day 9 | After breakfast we arrive on the island of Santorini, which is the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands. | The town of Fira, with white-washed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques cling to steep cliffs accessible by cable-car or mule. The village of Oia is a "must", and inspiration to all artists with numerous art galleries and spectacular views. To the south is Akrotiri where recent Minoan excavations support the theories that Santorini might be the fabled lost continent of Atlantis. (There will be an opportunity for Mass/prayers on board the ship). | Overnight on board ship. | | Day 10 | After breakfast, we disembark and take our return flight from Athens to the UK. |
