Make the most of your stay by combining Rome and Assisi. Some of the greatest highlights of the pilgrimage is to attend the Papal General Audience in St Peter’s Square, the 4 Papal Basilicas which are highest-ranking Roman Catholic churches, Vatican Museum most notable for its Papal history, the ancient Catacombs, an underground burial site most famous for Christian burials and the Holy Stairs which are believed to have been brought from Jerusalem to Rome.
We visit the Colosseum, once the scene of many bloody gladiatorial contests, and the beautiful ornate Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and no stay in Rome would be complete without visiting the world-famous Sistine Chapel . Leaving the busy city we visit the church of Santa Maria Degli Angeli and the Porziuncola, the Church of St Mary of the Angels and the chapel, believed to be the place of St Francis’ death. The Porziuncola is a chapel restored by St Francis and where he established the order of the Friars minor here, later known as the Franciscans. We end our pilgrimage at the small medieval town of Assisi, with the Basilicas of St Francis and St Clare.
Assisi is famous for being the birthplace of St. Francis. Our pilgrimage takes us to the world heritage site of St. Francis Hermitage. We visit San Damiano basilica, where it all began in Assisi the place where St. Francis received his calling in 1205 and where St. Clare died in 1253.
